How is a student referred to Parkland Preparatory Academy?

The referral process is initiated by one of our public school district partners. A school district representative will send the following items when referring a student to Parkland:

  • Release of records signed by the parent/guardian
  • Most recent Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • The last evaluation conducted
  • And for high school students, their current class schedule and high school transcripts
What if the student does not have an IEP?

Students who do not have an established IEP will be considered for diagnostic placement. During this period of time, not to exceed 60 days, the evaluation process will be initiated, data will be gathered from formal and informal assessments and then all information will be shared with the student’s multi-disciplinary team, including parents, in order to create a plan to help the student continue to move forward and encounter success in the learning environment.

What happens after a student is referred to Parkland Preparatory Academy?

Following initiation of the referral process, the Director of Admissions will contact the parent/guardian for a tour of the campus and to hear about what our program has to offer. As long as the public school district representing the student, and the parent are in agreement that Parkland can meet the needs of the student, the parent/guardian will be asked to complete the registration process with Parkland. Once this process is completed, the Director of Admissions will let the school district representative know they can set up transportation for the student confirming the expected start date.

How does someone start the referral process?

Any public school representative can contact Amy Bartt, Director of Admissions at amy.bartt@parklandprep.com to discuss referrals. While we are more than willing to speak with parents about our program and what it has to offer, please understand the public school district your child attends must be the entity to make a formal referral for your student to attend Parkland Preparatory Academy.
